Impressions Nightlife

When I first thought about writing for this blog, I got really excited thinking about all the great restaurants in the area I wanted to tell you all about.
But first, I had to sit and meditate, make some lists and focus on what I thought about when I thought about great food in Springfield, MA.
The first things I started thinking about when I was being honest with myself weren't even restaurants. It was homemade food. Made by friends and family. Food cooked and shared with love.
Maybe I am lucky, or perhaps it says more about the type of people I like to have in my inner circle, but I just so happen to know A LOT of great home chefs in the city of Springfield.
I could do a cook-off between several of my friends alone to see who makes the best pernil in Springfield (maybe an idea for another time).
I think many folks in Springfield are foodies who love to create new dishes and host dinner parties. Springfield BBQ's are some of the most epic in terms of wildness and of course in terms of the food spread!

When I was coming up, I thought that selling plates was a pretty normal thing. I have since discovered that it's not as popular in other places, and some folks may have never heard about it. The culture of selling plates is alive and well in Springfield!
You can find food of all kinds made by people in their kitchens. Most locals know someone who is selling plates.
If you come to visit from out of town, ask some locals f they know anyone selling plates! You can find almost everything. Different types of empanadas, sweets like cupcakes and cookies, coquito around the holidays and so much more. You can truly eat like a local and discover some new foods at the same time.

If you are craving homemade food and also wanna support the church, Springfield has many churches that hold functions and fundraisers where you can get some real home cooking.
You can do a whole plate of fried chicken, potato salad, mac and cheese, rice, and a drink for $20, add a slice of cake for just $3, and some of them will even deliver it to you!
Spring is around the corner, so be on the lookout for some great local bake sales and fundraisers as well.

Savers

By: John Shea

I arrived at Savers on a Saturday morning, From the outside, the whole property seemed stagnant. As I walked to the door, I had an eerie feeling. The closer I got to the front door the clearer it became, I was early, Lame! I had to wait ten whole minutes in the car before I could get in. As I turned to get back in my car for the wait, I saw what was giving me that odd feeling before, Dozens of cars were filled with faces, A look of excitement was fleeting them as I made it clear this morning would not be an early opening for us. The walk to my car almost felt humiliating, Had I been the first to fool themself with that delusional "maybe I'm the first one here this morning thinking?" It was almost the ten-minute mark, as if we all planned it, the parking lot lit up with life. Like a force being called to arms, we swarmed the entrance. Most of us were the strange sect of women in their mid-sixties with poor communication skills and a bad attitude. They comprised the front line. There are also the face tatted youth with social anxiety, and their ever-evolving encoded language, I can only describe as bussin. They take up the back line. There are also the middle aged of us, penny pinching treasure hunters, we don't know what we want, but we want it cheap. The sales associate had to be nimble. As the horde poured in through the sliding glass doors, we scattered. Each of us had our first destination, we knew the path we took to find our fill. I go to the book section first, rarely do I find anything that peaks my interest but sometimes, I get something good, it feels like a lop of gold I carry around the rest of my visit. Maybe a nice cookie sheet ill find, maybe a solid wood shelf, the kind they don't make anymore. There is a huge assortment of porcelain figurines, I usually search for a dragon but its mostly angels and clowns, Ill keep checking though. Ive gotten all my utensils and pots from there, cheap and solid. There is a little bit of everything at this store and even if I don't buy anything, it's a nice spot to kill twenty minutes
